When I was in fourth grade, my friends read chapter books faster than me. I decided I was bad at reading, but I needed enough “Accelerated Reader” points to keep a good grade in English. I sat in the library, over recess, with a stack of picture books. I read one, took a test, read another, took a test—until I had enough points to equal a Harry Potter book (34). That’s when I fell in love with picture books. That’s also when I failed the test for CHICKA CHICKA BOOM BOOM.
